WILLIAM "BILL" MOSS (OHIO / VIRGINIA, 1957-2014) CALLA LILY SCULPTURE, mixed metals, depicting five central blossoms surrounded by leaves and tendrils. No signature located. Together with a folder containing related color photos and correspondences. 20th century. 21 1/2" HOA.
Provenance: Property of a Shenandoah Valley of Virginia lady. Purchased at Laughlin Auctions, Edinburg, VA, 6/7/2014.
Catalogue Note: William "Bill" Moss was a blacksmith and woodworker born in Cleveland, Ohio. He served two stints in the Marine Corps, from 1976 to 1980 and again from 1983 to 1988. During his tenure he served as blacksmith for the Commandant of The Marine Corps. A pair of his single-bloom calla lily candlesticks were presented to both President George W. Bush and President Barrack Obama (a color photo of each presentation is included in the accompanying folder along with copies of letters pertaining to the Obama gift). After his Marine Corps service he lived and worked in Maurertown, Virginia. He succumbed to cancer in 2014 at the age of 56.
