ADELE WILLIAMS (VIRGINIA, 1868-1952) MARKET SCENE, watercolor on paper, a vibrant depiction of produce at a market in the Impressionist style, possibly a Shockoe Bottom scene, signed lower left. Housed under glass in a modern frame. Circa 1940. 16" x 14" object, 23 1/2" x 21 1/2" OA.
Catalogue Note: A life-long resident of Richmond, Virginia, Adele Williams (1868-1952) studied with Charles Hawthorne (1872-1930) and William Merritt Chase (1849-1916). She exhibited frequently in her lifetime, and her work is represented at the Virginia Museum of History and Culture and the University of Virginia.
