AMERICAN / ENGLISH TRAPUNTO WHITEWORK QUILT,
hand-stitched, top three joined panels having intricate stuffed/trapunto and corded designs with tight outline quilting, featuring a central medallion surrounded by leaves within a square frame, bordered by foliate motifs within another frame, border to all four sides, diagonal straight-line and grid quilting, applique fringe to three sides, four paneled plain backing.
Fourth quarter 18th/first quarter 19th century.
101" x 99" with fringe.
Provenance: Property deaccessioned by the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association, Mount Vernon, VA.
Poor overall condition with heavy toning, scattered losses and tears including to stuffing and cords, some patch mends, netting support over one fourth of top.
