AMERICAN SCHOOL (19TH CENTURY) FOLK ART PORTRAIT OF A MILITARY OFFICER, oil on panel, bust-length depiction of youthful figure with sideburns, he in military attire, his coat adorned with brass buttons and epaulettes, subject identified verso on old typed label as "JOHN CHURCH HAMILTON / Son of Alexander Hamilton. / Born August 22, 1792 / Graduated / Columbia College 1809. / Commissioned Lieutenant / U. S. A. / March 1814. Served as / aide-de-camp to General / Harrison", no signature located. Housed in a 19th-century gilt frame. Second quarter 19th century. 14 1/2" x 11 1/2" sight, 18 1/4" x 15 1/4" OA.

Very good overall visual condition with scattered minor inpainting to figure and background. Frame excellent with very minor wear.
