oil on canvas,
a large example, featuring figures gathering firewood in a snowy woodland, barn with open lean-to on one end revealing the glow of a blacksmith at his forge inside, signed "A Green" lower right, stenciled / stamped Baltimore artist supply merchant mark verso. Housed in likely original gilt frame with molded-composition ornament and ebonized outer edge. Third quarter 19th century.
23 1/2" x 33 1/2" sight, 30 1/2" x 40 1/2" OA.
Excellent overall condition with very minor areas of discoloration. frame with minor wear, ebonized band possibly repainted.
