ANTIQUARIAN AMERICAN LITERARY VOLUMES, LOT OF FOUR, comprising (1) Nathaniel Hawthorne, The Blithedale Romance, Boston: Ticknor, Reed, and Fields, 1852, first edition; (2) Daniel Defoe, Robinson Crusoe, New York: George Long, 1815; (3) Mark Twain, The Prince and the Pauper, NY: Charles L. Webster & Company, 1892; and (4) The Orpheus C. Kerr Papers, New York: Blakeman & Mason, 1862. (1) hardcover bound in brown cloth with embossed design on covers and gilt-stamped title on spine; (2) bound in brown leather with frontispiece illustration and "Lacy Spring" written in pencil inside front cover; (3) hardcover bound in tan cloth with embossed black illustrations on cover and spine, engraved illustrations throughout the text, gift inscription "For - 'Buddy' Clayburg, Christmas - 1938" written in pencil on front endpaper, and Twain-related newspaper articles pasted to back endpapers and inside back cover; and (4) bound in blue cloth with embossed design on covers and spine.

Condition

Overall fair to good condition. (1) with wear to covers, chipping to spine, and toning and foxing to some interior pages. (2) with heavy wear to covers and spine, most of title missing from spine, losses to corners of first several pages, large portion missing from pp. 19-20 and large tear to middle of 21-22. (3) with loose binding, missing applied decorations to cover, loss to margin of p. 225, and yellowing to back pages from newspaper clippings. (4) with heavy wear to cover and spine, chipping to spine, loose binding and significant toning to interior pages.
