ANTIQUARIAN HISTORICAL VOLUMES, LOT OF FIVE, comprising (1) J.H. Merle D'Aubigne, History of the Great Reformation of the Sixteenth Century in Germany, Switzerland, Etc., Philadelphia: James M. Campbell, 1844; (2) Thomas Percy, editor, Reliques of Ancient English Poetry, Philadelphia: F. Bell, 1855; (3) Folk-Lore and Legends, Oriental, Philadelphia: J.B. Lippincott, 1890; (4) Folk-Lore and Legends, Scotland, Philadelphia: J.B. Lippincott, 1891; and (5) Lord Charnwood, Abraham Lincoln, London: Constable & Company, 1924. D'Aubigne in modern binding with older painted floral illustration preserved on front cover. Percy with quarter leather over marbled boards, gilt-embossed designs on spine, marbled endpapers and page edges, frontispiece engravings by A.B. Walter, and signed "W.K. Woodwell / Des Moines / 1857" in ink on first page. Both volumes of Folk-Lore and Legends with half leather over marbled boards, Scotland volume with chromolithograph trade card for "Newsboy" plug tobacco dated 1892 between pages. Charnwood with half leather over marbled boards, gilt-stamped title and date on spine, and Lincoln portrait photograph on frontispiece.

Condition

Overall good to very good condition. (1) D'Aubigne with toning to interior text and loss to margin at bottom of page 196. (2) Percy with significant wear to boards and spine, including large losses and tears and cracking to leather on covers and spine, fading to marbled page edges, and some interior pages with folded corners, staining, smudges, or fingerprints in margins. (3 and 4) Some wear to spines of Folk-Lore volumes and toning to several interior pages. (5) Charnwood with chip to top of spine and staining to several front pages.
