ANTONIO JACOBSEN (AMERICAN / DANISH, 1850-1921) "DAUNTLESS" SCHOONER PAINTING, oil on canvas, depicting a yacht / schooner flying the American flag, signed and dated lower right, and with inscribed label "by J Jacobsen / Present H.P. Maxwell" on reverse. Housed in a possibly original gilt frame. 1891. 13 1/2" x 21" sight, 18 1/4" x 26 1/4" OA. 
Catalogue Note: The Dauntless was acquired by James Gordon Bennett Jr. (1841-1918), publisher of the New York Herald, where he had it fitted as a schooner for racing in 1867. It partook in "The Great Ocean Race" losing to the Cambria in 1870.

Condition

Very good overall visual condition, lined, old tear with associated repair to upper left corner with very minor inpainting.
