BRAZILIAN AND PORTUGUESE 0.833 SILVER, AND POSSIBLY OTHER, 143-PIECE ASSEMBLED FLATWARE SERVICE, each having a partially reeded patterned handle; solid pieces comprising 18 6 7/8" L soup/dessert spoons, 12 6 5/8" - 6 3/4" L soup/dessert spoons with one being broken in half, 13 4 3/4" L spoons, 12 demitasse spoons, a stuffing serving spoon, a punch / soup ladle, two cream ladles, and a small, possibly sugar, spoon with shovel bowl; pieces with hollow handles consisting of 30 four-tined 6 5/8" - 6 3/4" L forks, 12 three-tined forks, 14 place knives, 11 small knives, 12 butter knives, a carving fork and knife set, and a fish serving set of a server and a fork having ornate decoration including figural fish. Many pieces with Brazilian "10" mark for 10 dinheiros or 0.833 silver fineness, one demitasse spoon with a Porto, Portugal boar hallmark for 0.833 silver utilized between 1887 and 1937, remaining demitasse spoons unmarked, many pieces also with various maker's marks, some unmarked pieces possibly another silver fineness or silver-plated including the three-tined forks, small knives, and butter knives. Total weight of 60 solid silver pieces including 19 unmarked items: 70.75 ozt.; total weight of 32 hollow-handled pieces comprising 30 four-tined forks and the fish serving set including non-silver components: 64.995 ozt. Together with a 19th century oilcloth flatware box. 144 pieces total. 19th/early 20th century. Fish server 12 1/2" LOA.
Catalogue Note: According to the consignor, "this silver service... was found in 1985 hidden behind a wall during a renovation of a Cape Cod house. The renovation was an expansion into a walled-off area of a 2nd story bedroom in a 200-year-old house in the west end of Provincetown, a fishing and tourist town at the end of Cape Cod".

Condition

Most pieces in good to very good overall condition with some wear, surface scratches, and other imperfections including nicks, bending, minor/small dents, and/or worn spots; small shovel-bowl spoon with repair to handle, probably other pieces with repairs; one spoon broken in half; two four-tine forks each having one partial or whole loss of a tine; one small knives with a loss to tip of blade; some hollow-handled pieces with separation between tops and handles; flatware box with wear and other imperfections, front edge side of lid detached.
