BRITISH PICTORIAL NEEDLEWORK SAMPLER, silk on linen, depicting various motifs throughout including birds, flowers in baskets and urns, butterflies, trees, and stags, lower third featuring a mirrored image with each side having a shepherd with staff, two sheep, and a dog, center signed "Jane Hone Aged 10 / 1844" within a floral vine cartouche with a crown to top, all encompassed in a floral vine border. Housed under glass in a wooden frame. Dated 1844. 12 5/8" x 11 3/4" sight, 17 1/4" x 16 1/2" OA.
Condition
Very good visual condition with linen having very light toning and some small stains and spotting, a small loss to lower left corner and some small holes along the edges, some thread with fugitive color, frame with minor wear. Not examined out of frame.
