CONTINENTAL PICTORIAL SILK-EMBROIDERED LARGE PANEL, silk and chenille on silk, completed in intricate stitching by a highly-skilled hand, depicting a child holding a stick over their shoulder with an attached basket of flowers, a dog following closely behind as they walk through a landscape with a variety of plants and trees with bugs, birds, and a snail. Housed under glass in a later gilt-molded frame. Probably French. Late 18th/first quarter 19th century. 38 1/2" x 30" sight, 41 5/8" x 33 1/8" OA.

Condition

Stitching mostly in very good visual condition with some light fading and fugitive color, a sizable area of losses at feet of child, other scattered breaks and small losses, backing fabric in fair to good condition with several tears including a sizable tear in front of the child which appears to have tape support to back, some scattered discoloration, frame with some wear notably along edges. Not examined out of frame.
