C. 1907 GIBSON F-2 MANDOLIN WITH ORIGINAL CASE, serial number 7413, eight string, three-point asymmetrical body, spruce top with black painted finish, inlaid faux tortoise shell pickguard, and oval sound hole featuring inlay to rosette, maple sides and back with deep mahogany finish, ivoroid body bindings, mahogany neck and ebony fretboard with mother-of-pearl fret markers, veneer-front and back headstock featuring slanted mother-of-pearl inlaid "The Gibson" logo in script lettering, original inlaid tunners and "The Gibson" German silver tailpiece, original paper label to interior with patent date, presented with original tooled leather case. Gibson Mandolin-Guitar Mfg. Co., Kalamazoo, Michigan. Circa 1907. 27" LOA, 10 1/2" WOA.
Provenance: Deaccessioned by the Valentine Museum, Richmond, VA to benefit collections care, preservation and future acquisitions.

Condition

Good visual condition with expected usage wear, black paint with all-over craquelure, a crack along outer edge of pickguard uncertain if it goes through, possible other cracks/hairlines to body, bridge reattached, fretboard with two long cracks starting at lower edge, significant crack to headstock with flakes and losses to "The Gibson" including lacking "h", old accession number to back of headstock, possibly refinished and/or having repairs; case with moderate to heavy wear, some breaks and losses including lacking carrying handle.
