CONTINENTAL FREE-BLOWN BLACK GLASS DEMIJOHN / UTILITY BOTTLE, dark olive/black, globular body, having a mostly-flat base without pontil scar, wide neck with thin applied round collar below the roughly sheared and ground mouth. Possibly French or Belgian. Late 18th century. 17" H, 13" DOA.

Condition

Essentially undamaged, but with a spidering network of annealing lines/stretch marks around the base, confined to the surface, some with stretched or burst open bubbles. Roughness and flaking around upper edge of mouth, as made.
