DAVID LEACH (JAPANESE/ENGLISH, 1911-2005) STUDIO POTTERY STONEWARE TEAPOT, fluted form with a short spout and a cane handle, having dark tenmoku glaze. Impressed Lowerdown Pottery and David Leach seal to underside. 20th century. 7" H, 11" HOA (with handle upright).
Catalogue Note: David Leach was born into a potter's world in 1911. His father Bernard is probably the best known and most prominent of British studio potters. His father's friendship with Shoji Hamada brought about the development of Leach Pottery in St. Ives, Cornwall, which David joined in 1930. David eventually left Leach Pottery, setting up both Aylesford Pottery and Lowerdown Pottery in 1955. Leach remained at Lowerdown until his death in 2005.

Condition

Undamaged, except having a minor flake to cover, most likely made by a stone pop occurring in manufacturing.
