ENGLISH STERLING, AMERICAN COIN SILVER, AND POSSIBLY OTHER CARD CASES, LOT OF THREE, each having an ornately engraved exterior, comprising an English sterling silver case by Thomas Dones of Birmingham with an 1853 date mark featuring a vignette of a vase of flowers and engraved "Gogerty" name, an American coin silver case by Albert Coles of New York City, NY featuring a view of a fortress to one side and engraved "HEC" initials to the other side, and an unidentified silver case, possibly being coin silver, featuring a seaside view with boats and "CEC / to / HRC" personalized engraving. Two cases with maker's marks, English case with four hallmarks of a lion passant for sterling silver, an anchor city mark for Birmingham, an "E" date mark, and a Queen Victoria duty mark, one case with no mark or a worn mark. Total weight: 4.325 ozt. Mid/third quarter 19th century. English case 3 5/8" x 2 1/2" OA.

Condition

Good to very good overall condition with some wear, surface scratches, and other imperfections including dents, slight bending, and minor worn spots to engraving; English example with a spot of nicks to lid edge, possibly a few minor repairs along side seam lines; unmarked example with a solder repair to exterior side at hinge.
