ENGLISH VICTORIAN ENGRAVED-DECORATED STERLING SILVER CANN / MUG, baluster form having an applied double-scrolled handle with leaf thumbrest, remnants of gold-washed finish to interior, raised on a round foot, sides with possibly later engraved decoration featuring flowers, leaves, scrolls, and shells, center frame with "GEG" initials. Impressed to side under rim with "DH / CH" maker's mark for Daniel & Charles Houle and four hallmarks of a lion passant for sterling fineness, a leopard's head city mark for London, a "b" date mark for 1857, and a Queen Victoria duty mark. Total weight: 10.845 ozt. Circa 1857. 5 1/2" HOA, 3 1/4" D rim.


Good to very good visual condition with some wear, surface scratches, nicks, and scattered dents with some being moderate, repair along top of foot with base of well causing it to sit slightly unleveled, possibly one or more other repairs including to top terminal of handle and to sides at engraving.
