ESQUIVILLON & DECHOUDENS, FRENCH SILVER AND SHAGREEN PAIR CASED KEY-WIND POCKET WATCH, verge escapement movement with engraved and pierced silver balance bridge, four square baluster pillars, a ruby endstone, and silver regulator disk, having a 43 mm white enamel dial with Roman chapter ring, Arabic outer track, and fancy gilt hands, housed in a silver inner open-face case with dome crystal, period and probably replacement brass outer case with silver hinge and rims, front edges and back featuring shagreen covering, interior back lined with a 20th century retailer's paper label for J.R. & W. Laing of Glasgow, Scotland, includes a key. Movement signed "Ls.Fs. Esquisillon / & DeChondens No. 25590", inner case with "D& / R" maker's mark and "25590", otherwise unmarked. Circa 1775. Outer case 57 mm D.

Condition

Very good overall condition with dial having two short hairlines with a couple of corresponding minute flakes to edge at the 5 position, inner case with some minor wear and surface scratches, a few minor/small dents and nicks mostly along side edges, possible repair to stem, bow with a repair and slight bending which fits loosely, outer case in very good visual condition with shagreen having restoration to half of top and to edges of back, glue repair or reinforcement to interior at hinge. Currently running, but not timed for accuracy (see Catalogue Guarantee).
