FRANCOIS LOUIS LANFANT DE METZ (FRENCH, 1814-1892) GENRE SCENE WITH THREE CHILDREN, oil on panel, "First Lessons on the Bagpipes" or "The Perplexed Musician", a charming depiction of sibling sentiment, featuring a boy at center holding a set of bagpipes while two younger girls, presumably his sisters, look on playfully at each shoulder, signed lower left, titled "L'Enfant de Metz" on period plaque applied to period giltwood frame with molded-composition ornament bearing New York merchant's stenciled mark verso. Mid 19th century. 14 1/2" x 17 3/4" sight, 25 1/4" x 28 1/2" OA.
