FRENCH CARVED AND INLAID VIOLIN, four string, spruce top, maple sides featuring gilt lettering in Latin which reads, "VIVA FVI / IN SILVIS DVM / MORTVA DVL / CE CANO", maple back with an inlaid view of a street with buildings, maple neck, peg box, and carved figural scroll of a bearded man, ebony fingerboard, chinrest, and tailpiece, interior with copied label of "GASPERO DA SALO, IN BRESCIA", including two bows. Together with possibly original hardshell case having a later Brazilian retailer's label for Joao Resende located on Rua Japaratuba 28 in Aracaju. Possibly from the workshop of Jean Baptiste Vuillaume of Paris or Honore Jean Joseph Derazey of Mirecourt, France. 19th century. 24 1/2" LOA, 8 1/4" WOA.

Condition

Good to very good visual condition with expected usage wear, scattered surface scratches, losses to gilt on lettering, neck with glue repairs at terminal of body, possible hairlines, cracks, and/or other repairs/replacements; case with wear, corrosion to metal components, and other imperfections.
