GEORGIAN ENGLISH STERLING SILVER PRESENTATION SNUFF BOX, rectangular form with reeded sides and foliate borders, hinged lid engraved "PRESENTED / TO / R. B. Symington Esqr. / 1st. January / M.DCCC.XXVIII." to top and "A Token / OF/ Affection & Gratitude, / FROM / BROTHERS & SISTERS. / For attention and fidelity / IN MANAGING FOR THEIR BEHOOF / The affairs of their late / VENERATED / Father." to the interior, engine-turned engraving to exterior base, interior with gilt-washed finish. Impressed to interior with "T S" maker's mark possibly for Thomas Spicer and four hallmarks of a lion passant for sterling fineness, an anchor city mark for Birmingham, a "B" date mark for 1825, and a King George duty mark. Total weight: 4.015 ozt. Circa 1825. 3 1/8" x 2" x 1" OA.
Provenance: From a Charlottesville, VA estate.

Condition

Very good overall condition with minor wear, surface scratches, and nicks, a few minor dents, slight bending to flange of lid, a few spots of loss to interior gilt.
