GERMAN CHINA HEAD LARGE LADY DOLL, unmarked, shoulder head, hand-painted facial features including blue eyes, molded eyebrows, and a pink closed mouth, stuffed body with porcelain arms and legs with paint decorated black shoes, jointed at shoulders, hips and knees, body retains a cloth sewn-in label marked "HUMPTY DUMPTY DOLL HOSPITAL", painted black molded Jenny Lind-style hair. Vintage clothing including a white silk and floral patterned dress, undergarments, and black velvet headband with flowers. Second quarter 19th century. 25 1/4" H.
Very good condition with less than expected wear, side of the neck with an as-made separation, touch-up painting to hair, probably later limbs and upper legs. Clothing in very good condition with some scattered imperfections including small repairs.
Deaccessioned by the Wachovia Historical Society to benefit acquisitions and conservation funds.
