GERMAN METTLACH / VILLEROY & BOCH CERAMIC STEINS, LOT OF FOUR, each 1/2L size, comprising one having ceramic inlaid lid featuring mold number 171 depicting relief figures representing activities throughout the year, and three examples with metal lid and thumbrest including a mold number 1403 featuring a man bowling, a mold number 2832 depicting a woman in a window, and one pug mold number 1526 featuring polychrome transfer image depicting an amusing figure wearing heart pants, a top hat, monocle, and smoking a cigarette. Marks to underside include two having impressed abbey with "METTLACH / VB", one with green-printed Mercury mark and "VILLEROY & BOCH / METTLACH", one having brown-printed "949 / GESCHUTZT", and each having various impressed or printed numerals. Late 19th/early 20th century. 9 1/4" HOA.
