GORHAM "MEDALLION" STERLING AND COIN SILVER FOUR-PIECE OPEN SALT AND SALT SPOON SET WITH ORIGINAL LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY RETAILER'S PRESENTATION CASE, pattern designed by George Wilkinson in 1864, each piece with one or four Classical-style bust of a man or a woman, comprising a pair of coin silver open salts with round pedestal-type bases, and a pair of sterling silver salt spoons, housed in the original presentation case from Fletcher & Bennett of Louisville, KY (active 1853-1870) with green silk and velvet interior lining having paper label. Open salts with "510" mark below the three Gorham pseudo hallmarks utilized between 1852 and 1865, spoons with three Gorham pseudo hallmarks next to "PAT. 1864" and "STERLING" marks. Total weight: 4.625 ozt. Gorham Mfg. Co., Providence, RI. One open salt 2 1/8" H, 2" D rim; case 2 3/4" HOA, 9" x 3 3/4" OA.

Condition

Silver in very good overall condition with some wear, minor to moderate surface scratches with the interior of the open salts having some heavy scratches, nicks, and minor worn spots to raised decoration; case with wear and scratches, and spots of loss to exterior covering, one side of lid with a few cracks, interior with silk having an area of tears, velvet with a loss to one applied edge for open salt.
