Catalogue Note: Born in Brooklyn, New York, Guy Carleton Wiggins (1883-1962) studied with his father, Carleton Wiggins (1848-1932), as a youth, and later, as a young man, with both William Merritt Chase (1849-1916) and Robert Henri (1865-1929). Associated with the Old Lyme artist colony, whose ranks included Childe Hassam (1859-1935) and Willard Leroy Metcalf (1858-1925), Wiggins is often noted for his Impressionist style as it manifests in both natural landscapes and city scenes. With respect to the latter, especially when winter weather is featured in the composition, the artist's work leans heavily towards Tonalism. The present example does just that, creating a visual mood that is distinctive to Wiggins and to New York City itself.

Excellent overall condition with very minor wear and discoloration to extreme sight edges. Frame with very minor wear.
