HENRY LOWNDES (D. 1842), PETERSBURG, VIRGINIA DECORATED STONEWARE COVERED JAR, salt-glazed, approximately one-half gallon capacity, tapering ovoid form with galleried rim. Brushed cobalt triple boll cotton plant design repeated three times to body, additional cobalt to cover, incised "X" to bottom. Henry Lowndes, Petersburg, VA. Circa 1840. 7 3/4" HOA, 4 3/4" D rim.
