HUDSON TOOL & DIE CO. 14K YELLOW GOLD APOLLO 11 COMMEMORATIVE MEDAL IN PENDANT SETTING, medal obverse with image of Neil Armstrong holding the American Flag on the moon surrounded by "UNITED STATES SPACESHIP APOLLO 11 / MOON LANDING JULY 20, 1969", reverse with names of Michael Collins, Neil A. Armstrong, and Edwin E. Aldrin, Jr. surround the famous quote "THAT'S ONE SMALL STEP FOR A MAN, ONE GIANT LEAP FOR MANKIND", above "HUDSON / TOOL & DIE CO., INC. / NEWARK, N.J. U.S.A.", presented in a pendant bezel setting. Medal and attached bail marked "14K", bezel tested as 14K gold fineness. Total weight: 17.4 grams. Circa 1970. Bezel 1 1/8" D.
Catalogue Note: Hudson Tool & Die Co., Inc. received a NASA award for manufacturing battery cases used on lunar rovers in the Apollo missions. The founder of Hudson, Charles Batka, had the medals cast in gold for all the employees at the company.
Condition
Excellent overall condition with minor wear, bezel with a few nicks, medal currently sits askew in the bezel. Not professionally graded.
