JAMES RIVER / PETERSBURG, VIRGINIA DECORATED STONEWARE LARGE JAR, salt-glazed, approximately ten-gallon capacity, elongated ovoid form with slightly flared and squared rim, beaded neck ring, and double applied grooved truncated strap handles, iron-oxide glazed interior. Brushed cobalt triple branched plant with five three-petal flowers, flanked by vertical feather decoration. Possibly Thomas and John Ducey, Petersburg, VA. Mid 19th century. 21 3/8" H, 10 7/8" D rim.
