JAMES RIVER, VIRGINIA DECORATED STONEWARE JAR, salt-glazed, approximately three-gallon capacity, ovoid form with flat-top rounded rim, incised shoulder rings, and tab handles. Brushed cobalt three chain link-style decoration to each side, additional cobalt to handle terminals. Attributed to John P. Schermerhorn, Samuel Wilson, and/or associates, Richmond or Henrico County, VA. 1817-1850. 14 1/4" H, 8 1/8" D rim.

Condition

Having some chips to rim including one with associated hairline, one handle with moderate chip and loss of remaining handle. Manufacturing flaws including slumping rim and indentation and two indentations, as made.
