JEAN-BAPTISTE ROBIE (BELGIAN, 1821-1910) STILL LIFE WITH ROSES AND CHALICE, oil on cradled panel, an exquisitely executed depiction of freshly cut roses and wildflowers, the petals and leaves still bearing jewel-like drops of dew, resting on a marble slab beside an engraved glass chalice bearing armorial decoration, signed lower left. Housed in a period gilt frame with molded-composition ornament and modern liner. Third quarter 19th century. 8 1/2" x 12" panel, 20 3/4" x 16 3/4" OA.
Catalogue Note: Jean-Baptiste Robie (1821-1910) studied as a young man at the Academie Des Beaux-Arts in Brussels and was a popular painter during his lifetime. Known for his landscapes and still-life compositions, Robie is particularly noted for his depictions of flowers, especially roses.

Condition

Excellent overall visual condition with very minor inpainting, mostly to left sight edge. Frame excellent overall with later liner.
