JUSTIN TIULANA (ALASKAN INUPIAQ, B. C. 1947) NATIVE AMERICAN HUNTER CARVED BONE FIGURE, depicting a hunter in a kayak, raising a spear in one hand and holding onto the connecting rope in the other, aiming in front of him with a seal draped on the boat, base with etched signature. Circa 1975. 5 1/2" LOA.
Catalogue Note: Justin Tiulana was born in King Island, AK to parents Paul and Clara Yamane Tiulana. His father, Paul, served during World War II (WWII) and was a King Island elder, culture bearer, traditional musician, and lecturer. He also was a walrus ivory carver, who taught his children this skill. Justin and his brothers, Matthew and Tom, went on to become talented carvers and artists.

Condition

Very good overall condition with minor wear, spear currently detached from hand.
