LINCOLN FAMILY, ROCKINGHAM CO., SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VIRGINIA WOOL BLANKET AND OVERSHOT COVERLET, LOT OF TWO PIECES, comprising a homespun wool blanket, two joined panels, cream colored with top and bottom edge having rose red stitching, bottom center with embroidered "C . L / 18." in rose red and "N" in cream, later applied collector's tag in lower corner; and an overshot coverlet, navy blue wool and natural cotton, three joined panels, having overall latticed pattern, embroidered "C H L" to one bottom corner. Each with note written by Joan Byrd. 19th century. Blanket 59 1/2" x 81"; coverlet 94" x 108".
Provenance: From the John H. and Joan S. Byrd estate collection, Harrisonburg, VA.
Owned by Caroline Homan Lincoln (1828-1917), wife of Jacob Nicolas Lincoln (1821-1880) of Lacey Spring, VA.
Bought at the estate sale of their daughter, Nora Lincoln Fadeley (1869-1950).

Condition

Blanket in fair to good overall condition with scattered holes and some mends, a loss at top edge, center seam restitched, some losses to stitching at top and bottom edges; coverlet in very good overall condition with some light toning mostly along edges, spots of separation at seam lines with some mends, wear and tear along top and bottom edges with possibly restitching, some scattered holes, minor losses to wool, and stains/spotting.
