LOUDON CO., VIRGINIA PAINTED POPLAR PUNCHED-TIN-PANELED FOOD / PIE SAFE, featuring rectangular top fitted with applied gallery and tall square-tapered legs, 12 applied tins in all, each exhibiting finely punched design of central heart flanked by rings of concentric circles. Retains original dry, untouched red-painted surface. Mid 19th century. 58" H, 39 3/4" W, 17 1/2" D.
Catalogue Note: According to the consignor, the present safe was discovered in a smokehouse on the grounds of an early estate in Loudoun Co., Virginia.
