LOUIS CONTOIT (AMERICAN, 19TH CENTURY) BARN SCENE WITH YORKSHIRE TERRIER AND CAT, oil on canvas, the two subjects in a stand-off over scraps left in a Rockingham-glazed dish on the straw-laden floor, signed lower right, titled "FIGHTING OVER THE DISH" on exhibition label verso. Housed in a period, possibly original, giltwood frame with molded-composition ornament. Circa 1885. 17 1/2" x 23 1/2" sight, 31 1/2" x 25 1/2" OA.

Very good overall visual condition with minor scattered craquelure, minor scattered inpainting, mostly to background and dish. Frame with moderate to heavy wear and losses, with areas of touch-up.
