JOHN CARLETON WIGGINS (AMERICAN, 1848-1932) WINTER LANDSCAPE WITH FIGURES, oil on canvas, an outstanding, luminous example, featuring two figures, probably a parent and small child, at twilight on a country road with barn and blacksmith / wheelwright shop nearby, signed and dated "J. C. Wiggins '96" lower left, signed and titled verso, likely in artist's hand "The Forge at Twilight". Housed in likely original giltwood frame with elaborate molded-composition ornament. Dated 1896. 11 1/2" x 19 1/2" sight, 22 3/4" x 30 3/4" OA.

Condition
(Updated 10/19/2023) Very fine original condition with minor discoloration and a small paint loss to the left side of the building. Frame good overall with some wear, losses, and possible repairs.
