Dove" lower left and dated "1936" lower right. Housed under glass in a later oak frame. 1936. 21 3/4" x 27 1/4" sight, 25 1/2" x 31 1/2" OA.

Catalogue Note: Luke Dove was born at Mathias, WV and spent the first 20 years of his life living with his family in the Lost River community. By 1938, he had moved with his family to Timberville, VA to work at the local orchard. For most of his life, Luke worked as a woodworker at Virginia Craftsman in Harrisonburg, VA. The present painting was executed when Luke was 17 years old and still living at Lost River.
