MARTIN BRECHALL (SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA, ACT. 1783-1830) FOLK ART FRAKTUR BIRTH AND BAPTISMAL CERTIFICATE, watercolor and ink on paper, center featuring inscription for Israel Tilgert, son of Johannes Tilgert and Elisabeth, born on November 19, 1823 and baptized on January 5, 1824 in Moore Township, Northampton Co., PA, three sides with stylized floral devices, top center with a verse, signed in lower right. Unframed. Circa 1824. 12 1/4" x 8".
Catalogue Note: Identified as Israel Tilgert (Dilcher) born to parents Johannes Tilgert (Dilcher) (1798-1833) and Elisabeth Graber (1796-1882) of Moore Township, Northampton Co., PA. He married Hannah Schott (1829-1912) in 1847, and they had three children. Israel remained in Moore until his death on December 28, 1902 and is buried along with his wife at Fairview Cemetery in Moorestown, PA.
Condition
Good visual condition with light toning, some scattered spotting and discoloration, being torn in half through center vertical having tape reinforcement to back, side edges having short tears with most not affecting the drawing.
