MARTIN BRECHALL (SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA, ACT. 1783-1830) FOLK ART FRAKTUR BIRTH AND BAPTISMAL CERTIFICATE, watercolor and ink on paper, center featuring inscription for Lydia Remeli, daughter of Georg Remeli and Regina, born on October 24, 1809 and baptized on December 10, 1809 in Lehigh Township, Northampton Co., PA, sides with stylized floral devices and two hearts containing verses, signed in lower left. Unframed. Circa 1809. 15 1/2" x 13".
Catalogue Note: Identified as Lydia Remeli (Remely / Remaly / Remaley) born to parents George Remeli (1782-1858) and Regina Schaefer (Schaffer) (1789-1858), and she was the only child of the couple. She married Edward Kohler (1806-1882) in 1835, and they had eight children. Lydia died on September 25, 1894 and is buried along with her husband at Egypt Cemetery in Egypt, Lehigh Co., PA.
Fair to good as-found condition with overall toning, scattered spotting and stains, laid down on paper for support, some losses and tears including on inscription and along edges, a piece of tape on top inscription.
