MID-ATLANTIC PIECED QUILTS, LOT OF TWO, hand- and machine-stitched, comprising a "Gentleman's Fancy" quilt, 32 whole, 16 half, and two quarter on-point pattern blocks having diagonal grid sashing in double pink and other print fabrics, all four sides with quintuple border, outline, straight-line and chain-link quilting, applied print fabric binding, whole cloth plain backing; and a "Double Irish Chain" quilt, 31 plain blocks having applique corners alternating with pattern blocks in blue star-print and plain white fabrics, each side with a plain border, grid and double-channeled quilting, applied matching blue print binding, two-paneled plain backing. Late 19th/early 20th century. "Gentleman's Fancy" 80" x 82"; "Double Irish Chain" 71" x 86 1/2".

Condition

"Gentleman's Fancy" in fair overall condition, top with overall toning, some stains and spotting, some tears with a few being sizable, binding with tears being significant to two sides, backing with toning and some stains; "Double Irish Chain" in fair overall condition, top with toning, a large area of fading to blue fabric, scattered stains, a few small holes, binding with one end edge having significant tears, otherwise a few small holes, and a section of fading, backing in good condition with light toning being more moderate along edges, some scattered stains and spotting, a few small holes with majority corresponding to the holes on top.
