ORANGE, NEW YORK DATED DOUBLE WEAVE COVERLET, dark blue wool and natural cotton, two joined panels, center with rose motifs surrounded by stars, three sides each with an inner border featuring double spread-wing eagles alternating with trees and a diamond-patterned outer border. Each bottom corner block signed "ORANGE / 1838". Probably Orange Township, or possibly Orange Co., New York. Dated 1838. 72 1/2" x 85".
Fair to good overall condition with several scattered losses to wool, one through hole in lower half, a few mended areas, some scattered stains and spotting, top and bottom edges with wear and tears, center seam probably with mending.
