PARIAN-STYLE EMMA CLEAR GEORGE AND MARTHA WASHINGTON CHARACTER DOLLS, PAIR, (Updated 3/19/2024), shoulder plate heads, comprising Martha with hand-painted facial features including hazel eyes, eyebrows, and a pink closed mouth; George with hand-painted facial features including blue eyes, eyebrows, and a pink closed mouth; each with a cloth stuffed torso and porcelain arms and legs, jointed at shoulders, each with finely sculpted fingers, Martha jointed at hips and knees, each with molded and paint decorated hair, Martha with a bonnet. Martha inscribed at lower edge of shoulder plate "1940", and George with "1941". Vintage clothing including a beige satin dress with lace and sequins, George in a black velvet suit and having an embroidered tan and floral vest, each with period undergarments. 1940 and 1941. 19" H and 20 1/4" H.

Condition

Excellent condition, George with detached ponytail and ribbon, otherwise each undamaged with less than expected wear. Martha's clothing with imperfections including disintegration. George's clothing in very good condition with minor wear.

Deaccessioned by the Wachovia Historical Society to benefit acquisitions and conservation funds.
