POSSIBLY NEW ENGLAND COIN SILVER SUGAR TONGS / NIPS, hinged form having ovoid handles with foliate accents, circular center with worn engraving, and shell-form grips. Each handle impressed twice to side with a maker's mark of "T [pellet] C", or possibly "T [pellet] O", unconfirmed maker with possible candidates including Timothy Chandler of Concord, NH (active 1791-1848), Thomas Clarke of Boston, MA (active 1725-1781), and Thomas Coverly of Boston, MA (active c. 1735-1770), silver of unknown fineness, probably coin. Total weight: 1.540 ozt. 18th century. 5" LOA.
Very good visual condition with some wear, surface scratches, and nicks, one handle with a likely repair to interior side of oval and a repair to lower extension near hinge, other handle with possible repair, a repair to one side near hinge.
