BALTIMORE, MARYLAND / WASHINGTON, DC MERCHANT'S STONEWARE JUG, salt-glazed, "2" gallon capacity mark, squat beehive form with ringed mouth, single-incised shoulder ring, and applied handle. Stamped "BORROWED / FROM / KING & BURCHELL. / GROCERS.DEALERS / IN TEAS &[reversed] C / WASHINGTON. / D C", cobalt highlighting the stamp. The pottery of Peter Herrmann (1825-1901), Baltimore, MD. Circa 1875. 9 1/2" H, 9 1/2" D base.
