Catalogue Note: The Virginia/Rockingham Co. Pottery Company (aka the Sherratt Pottery, the Harrisonburg Pottery), began manufacturing ceramics in the city of Harrisonburg in late 1890. Founded by W.W. Sherratt of Trenton, New Jersey, the state-of-the-art business proved successful in the area, doubling in size by 1892. The pottery manufactured "white granite" ware, Rockingham ware, and yellowwares in a variety of forms including spittoons (cuspidors), nappies (plates), jugs, and teapots.
