ROBERT E. LEE AND MARY CUSTIS LEE PAIR OF CABINET CARD PHOTOGRAPHS, each with bust-length depiction of the sitter, card with embossed decoration and mark for J.T. Wampler of Charlottesville, VA. Reverse of each with handwritten "This picture belongs to / Mrs Annie S. Wills / Covington / Va". Together with a copy of Mrs. Robert E. Lee by Rose Mortimer Ellzey MacDonald, published by Robert B. Poisal, 1973. Three pieces total. Late 19th century. Each 4 1/4" x 6" OA.
Catalogue Note: Annie S. Wills is identified as Anna "Annie" Smith Scott Wills, who was born in 1838 to parents Andrew M. Scott (1802-1839) and Rachel Cameron Hamilton (1810-1877) of Covington, Alleghany Co., Virginia. Annie married William Slaughter Wills on September 4, 1866, and they had four children. She died in 1904 and is buried at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Covington, VA.

Condition

Very good visual condition with light spotting; Mrs. Lee photograph with a loss at lower proper right corner.
