JACOB ARCHIBALD REVERCOMB (1838-1864) PHOTO AND LETTER, (1) sixteenth-plate tintype bust portrait of Revercomb in gray wool jacket, in original paper frame with label for Geo. M. Blakemore's Daguerrean and Ambrotype Saloon and penciled identification to verso; and a two-page manuscript letter from Revercomb to his brother, dated March 9th, 1863, written from Edenberg (sic), Shenandoah Col, VA, discussing his brother's substitute Poke Gwin, and being homesick, "I have not been home since September and I think the chance to get there soon is bad. There is always someone saying peace, peace, when there is no peace - hope keeps us still looking forward and I hope the time may soon come that we shall all return in peace to our once happy home." Paper frame 4" x 2 3/8".
Catalogue Note: Jacob Archibald Revercomb was born in Bath Co., VA and lived in adjacent Highland Co., VA. He enlisted as a private on April 20, 1862 in the Bath Cavalry and served in Co. F, 11th VA Cavalry. He was killed May 6, 1864 at the Battle of the Wilderness.
