SAMUEL RAYMOND FANSHAW (AMERICAN, 1814-1888) STILL-LIFE WITH APPLE, oil on board, a single green apple on a white linen table cloth with a red background, signed and dated "Fanshaw / 1884" lower right. Housed in a period, probably original, gilt frame, with modern walnut shadow box outer frame. 10 3/8" x 10" sight, 17 1/4" x 16 3/4" OA.
Catalogue Note: A lifelong resident of New York City, Samuel Raymond Fanshaw (1814-1888) was a miniature and portrait painter who also created a number of fine still-life paintings of fruit. In his lifetime, he exhibited at the National Academy of Design, the American Institute, and the Brooklyn Academy of Arts.
Excellent overall visual condition with very minor inpainting to table cloth at lower edge (not affecting the signature). Frame excellent overall with minor restoration to molded-composition ornament.
