SCHERMERHORN POTTERY, RICHMOND, VIRGINIA DECORATED STONEWARE JAR, salt-glazed, designated four-gallon capacity, ovoid form with rounded rim, delicate beaded neck ring, double incised shoulder rings, and applied arched handles. Brushed cobalt double horizontal feather-like leaf decoration on each side, brushed "4" beneath each handle, additional cobalt at handle terminals, and brushed manganese curled design to underside. Probably John P. Schermerhorn (1788-1850), Richmond Factory, Henrico County, VA. 1840-1860. 15" H, 5 1/4" D rim.
