SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VIRGINIA AND RELATED HAIR-WORK AND OTHER ARTICLES, LOT OF 10 PIECES, comprising two hair-work mourning brooches with black enameled accents consisting of one with two different woven-hair pieces over fabric and one with swirled loose blond and brown hair having "S.F.C." engraved to back, two oval-cut tintypes of women with one in the dark-colored bodice having "Martha / Jennings / G Mother" hand-written to back, an oval-shaped piece of brown silk fabric with adhered paper having hand-written note of "Amanda / Pennybacker / Brock / G. Mother", possibly being the identity of the other sitter, and five ovoid frame/brooch parts of two beveled-edge glass panels, two frames, and one brooch frame with pin fastener. Unmarked. 19th century. Woven hair-work brooch 1 1/2" x 1 1/4" OA.
Provenance: From the John H. and Joan S. Byrd estate collection, Harrisonburg, VA.

Condition

Fair to very good overall condition with wear and other imperfections including surface scratches, bending, dents, nicks, and/or worn spots to finishes; woven hair-work brooch lacking pin fastener with splits at terminal on back; tintypes with wear along edges.
