SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VIRGINIA COPPER STILL CAP, dovetailed and riveted construction, the body with an applied flange and long, tapered spout. Retains its original surface. Mid 19th century. 14 1/2" H. 14" D rim, 25 3/4" L spout.
Catalogue Note: The present cap was part of the distillery equipment used by the Foltz family distillery on Swover Creek, just west of Edinburg, Shenandoah Co., VA. It is identical to the cap on the complete Foltz family still in the collection of the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley in Winchester, VA. The MSV acquired the entire contents of the distillery in 2001, including this extra cap. From the late 1800s until state officials enacted Prohibition in 1916, the James C. Foltz Distillery was a premier source of rye whiskey in Shenandoah County and the surrounding area.
Very good as-found condition with no holes or breaks, with expected denting.
