SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VIRGINIA FOLK ART PORTRAIT OF CAPTAIN ABRAHAM SAMUELS BYRD, oil on canvas, bust-length depiction of sitter within oval reserve, no signature located. Housed in likely original walnut frame. Third quarter 19th century. 29 3/4" x 21 1/4", 34 3/4" x 26 1/2" OA.
Provenance: From the John H. and Joan S. Byrd estate collection, Harrisonburg, VA.
Descended in the Byrd family.
Catalogue Note: Captain Abraham Byrd served with the 10th Virginia Infantry Company S, working as assistant quartermaster.
Very good overall visual condition, with minor tear to right of face with repair to the reverse.
